Private rented sector

A significant amount of housing is provided to tenants via the private rented sector.  Private landlords may have only one or two properties, or may be professional landlords with a suite of properties. Tenants in the private rented sector vary widely from students and professionals to social tenants.

Registration and licensing of landlords and agents

The Housing (Wales) Act 2014 (HWA 2014) introduces legislation which will regulate the private rented sector by requiring landlords to be registered, and any person letting or managing properties (whether the landlord or an agent on behalf of the landlords) to be licensed.

These provisions are yet to be brought into force.
