Brexit – the UK’s withdrawal from the EU

In a referendum held on 23 June 2016 a majority voted in favour of the UK leaving the European Union. On 29 March 2017 the Prime Minister of the UK notified the European Council of its intention to leave the EU, which formally triggered Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union ("TEU").

Immediately following the notification, the UK Government published their White Paper: Legislating for the United Kingdom's Withdrawal from the European Union.

The White Paper set out the government’s proposals for ensuring a functioning statute book once the UK has left the European Union.
