Electoral law - what is devolved?
Some of the content on these pages are under review and will be updated shortly.
The amendments made to the Government of Wales Act 2006 by the Wales Act 2017 mean that Senedd Cymru has legislative competence in relation to certain elements of elections to Senedd Cymru as well as to local government in Wales and referendums.
Likewise, the Welsh Ministers (Transfer of Functions) Order 2018 provides that certain functions of UK Ministers under electoral enactments are now exercisable by the Welsh Ministers (instead of by the UK Minister) in the manner set out in that Order.
The UK Government and Parliament retain responsibility for reserved elections and referendums (for example, parliamentary elections and elections of Police and Crime Commissioners).
