Planning policy guidance

The Welsh Ministers set policy and provide guidance to local planning authorities in Wales.

Planning policy for Wales is set out in:

• the Wales Spatial Plan (to be replaced in due course by the National Development Framework)
• Planning Policy Wales;
• Minerals Planning Policy Wales.

Planning Policy Wales and Minerals Planning Policy Wales are supplemented by a series of topic based Technical Advice Notes (TANs) and Minerals Technical Advice Notes (MTANs).

Circulars and policy clarification letters provide advice and guidance on specific subjects.
