Food

Food (and drink) is a devolved topic in Wales. This includes areas such as food safety and food labelling. Most functions in relation to food law now rest with the Welsh Ministers. Since a lot of the law in this area derives from European Union law, an important part of their role is to make regulations for the purpose of implementing EU food laws in Wales.

Senedd Cymru has used its law making powers to pass the Food Hygiene Rating (Wales) Act 2013. This Act establishes a food hygiene rating scheme. Food establishments are assessed by their local authority and required to display a sticker showing their food hygiene rating.
