Red Meat Industry (Wales) Measure 2010
The Red Meat Industry (Wales) Measure 2010 (‘the Measure’) sets out the basic parameters of the levy by which the red meat industry is supported financially. The funds raised are spent on developing and promoting the various activities set out in Schedule 1. The “read meat industry” refers to all activities involved in breeding, keeping, processing, marketing and distributing cattle, sheep and pigs (alive or dead) and products derived from those animals (apart from milk and milk products, fleece wool and hides).
The Measure removes the need for a Senedd Cymru Sponsored Public Body to be in place for the purposes of managing the development and promotion of the Welsh red meat industry, and makes the Welsh Ministers directly accountable for that industry. It also introduces a new delegation agreement between the Welsh Ministers and Hybu Cig Cymru - Meat Promotion Wales to provide a flexible framework which is capable of supporting alternative mechanisms for the determination and collection of the red meat levy.
The Explanatory Notes to the Measure provide detailed commentary on the various provisions.
