The UK Internal Market Act 2020

The UK Internal Market Act 2020 (UKIMA) came into force on the 1st of January 2021.

The UKIMA primarily establishes two “market access principles” that apply to goods and services (and also deals with the mutual recognition of professional qualifications along with other matters).

The principle of mutual recognition ensures relevant requirements from one part of the UK do not prevent the sale of goods and services in that country from another part of the UK.

The principle of non-discrimination supports companies trading in the UK, regardless of where in the UK they are based, by preventing unreasonably discriminatory regulation

It was passed without the consent of the Senedd or of the other devolved legislatures.
