Felling of trees

Part 2 of the Forestry Act 1967 (sections 9 to 36) relates to the felling of trees. A felling licence is required for the felling of growing trees (section 9(1)). In Wales, the felling licence is issued by Natural Resources Wales. The requirement to have a licence is subject to various exemptions, which are contained in sections 9(2), (3) and (4).

Felling a tree without a licence is an offence (section 17) punishable by a fine.
