Recycling of waste

The Waste (Wales) Measure 2010 sets progressive annual targets for Welsh local authorities in relation to recycling, preparation for re-use and composting; contains enabling powers for the Welsh Ministers to prohibit the disposal to landfill of specified waste materials (not yet used); and enabling powers for the Welsh Ministers to make regulations requiring specified persons to make site waste management plans (not yet used).
Also relevant are:
- the Landfill Allowances Scheme (Wales) Regulations 2004 (made under the Waste and Emissions Trading Act 2003) which record amounts of municipal waste sent to landfill etc.;
- the Recycling, Preparation for Re-use and Composting Targets (Definitions) (Wales) Order 2011 (made under the Waste (Wales) Measure 2010);
- the Recycling, Preparation for Re-use and Composting Targets (Monitoring and Penalties) (Wales) Regulations 2011 (made under the Waste (Wales) Measure 2010).
